IF SAMUEL HUNTINGTON HAD BEEN AN ISLAMIST...
A 33-page PDF file on the Clash of Civilizations endorsed by the radical Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir that, among other things, longs for a return to the gold standard. Those area specialists can also get to the file, presumably, in the orignal Arabic on the Hizb ut-Tahrir website.
While being advocates of a reborn Caliphate the Hizb ut-Tahrir appear to be a " drummer " organization dedicated to recruiting Muslims into the world of radical Islamist politics where then as individuals they would then migrate to action oriented groups - political parties or terror cells - if they are inclined and able. Sort of a transnational, ideological funnel. The group does not appear to direct terror or resistance activities though various regimes regard it as dangerously subversive.
If you look at the lists of arrested members it quickly becomes clear to the extent to which disconnected and corrupt Muslim regimes in the Gap are driving the more talented citizenry to Islamism ( or emigration). The members of Hizb ut-Tahrir are not the poor but what should be the rising middle-class in a normal society - junior officers, engineers, doctors, lawyers, teachers.
Like the frustrated Europeans of the interwar period these people are turning to movements that promise to employ radical methods to seek reactionary ends.
