CALL ME ANTICIPATORY...

Webmaster Sean Meade has posted two brand new Durand visuals of Dr. Barnett's talk at the recent Pop!Tech. It is interesting to me ( adjusting art critic beret...) how Durand's work has shifted significantly to a more emotive, less " tight", style compared to previous pieces.

Sean - Is Durand drawing while Tom gives his brief ? Perhaps the change in the artwork represents a change in Tom's delivery ?

to quote Sting: Sychronicity ;-)

though my art critic credentials are probably no more solid than yours ;-) i wouldn't really call the new style 'less tight', though i would call it more emotive. he's definitely using more of a graffiti/tag style. i'd say there's about the same amount of information, on the whole.

plus, can he write fewer words (which, in some ways could be described as 'tighter'), and convey as much? brevity is the soul of wit. less is more. etc

if you're interested in seeing all of Peter Durand's posters from the conference. download them here: http://www.poptech.org/blog/2006/10/download-poptech-posters-by-peter.html

is Durand drawing while? does he do a rough draft and then a final? don't know. haven't been there.

looking at the other pieces, though, i'd say the current style is uniform enough that it's not Tom's delivery that's effecting it.

Hey Sean,

"plus, can he write fewer words (which, in some ways could be described as 'tighter'), and convey as much? brevity is the soul of wit. less is more. etc"

I think so - depends on the conceptual complexity he's trying to convey. " deep" ideas can be represented simply but developed systems can't

Hi Sean

I saw your post about Peter's posters. He does all the drawing while the speaker is presenting.

I was there, and Peter is awesome.
