SMALL WARS AND LARGE IDEAS
Myke Cole was kind enough to draw my attention to several journals which I think will be of great interest to my readers, scholars, members of the Armed Services and a number of my fellow bloggers. I have already added them into my regular reading list alongside Parameters, Studies in Intelligence, Foreign Policy and similar periodicals and you should too:
Small Wars Journal (PDF)
I recommend " Reinventing the Counterinsurgency Wheel" by Major Adam Strickland, USMC). Small Wars also has its own blog.

Which carries articles by such well known national security authors as Dr. Chet Richards and Michael " Anonymous" Scheuer.
Myke's writing can/will be found in both journals as well as at the highly regarded Defense & the National Interest site. ¶ 7:39 PM

Great resources -- thanks! Although every time I read Foreign Policy I come away feeling like the articles are much too short and glossy, although they do have some valuable stuff in the back of the magazine (summaries of work in foreign academic journals, etc.)

Foreign Policy can be too glib, I agree with you there and some of the articles even get dangeously close to being described as " cutesy". What saves them from being the People magazine of international relations however is:
a) The ability to get real movers and shakers on the world scene to pen articles boldly dissenting from the conventional wisom on a given issue.
b) Regular attention to geoeconomics.
Foreign Affairs, by contrast has become a chore to read. It has become so establishment group-think and risk-averse that the intellectual vitality has been drained from the periodical. I still skim it to see what the bipartisan elite is ruminating on but I can't recall the last eye-opener they've published. Maybe Huntington but that's it.
