"THE THIRD REICH IN POWER"
Is the sequel to the highly regarded Coming of The Third Reich by eminent British historian, Richard J. Evans. Just picked up the hardcover edition and it promises to deliver at an impressive 941 pages and a bibliography that runs very heavy into the German language sources. Just flipping through I noted some obscure books that will delight even the specialist in the history of Nazi Germany.
In his first book, Evans did a yeoman job de-bunking the " Hitler came to power democratically" myth by examining the causal connection between the strategic use of street violence by the Nazi Party and consequent backstairs intriguing by the German elite to delegitimize, hollow out and then replace the Weimar democracy with a National Socialist state. In the second volume, Evans deals with the process of "coordination" as Nazi totalitarianism penetrates every quarter of German life.
Sigh. My " to be read" pile of books now stands at 23 !! ¶ 9:27 AM

So are you saying the Nazi penetrated every quarter of Germany society. Then they Isolated the people from their government by installing the elite into the places of power? Then they subdued and subverted the society by reorientated the government to the Nazi way of thinking? Then they re-harmonized the people to conform to the new rules of their government? Then they penetrated their neighbors and on and on and on? Or something to that effect? Or am I just imagining that is what you are getting at? I would imagine any time kinetic energy (street violence, death squads) is used to change something into political will (energy) the scenario could go something like that.
Of course if I am right, this could save you a lot of reading.
Also if this scenario is true, it leaves me with the impression that the way to fight a PISRR movement is by attrition (see WWII). If you simply threw enough bodies (suicide bombers could work)at the subdued and subverted component, the reorientation movement would fail. If that is the case, our best bet would be to simply get the Arabs and Iranians fighting among themselves to brake-up the war of attrition going on in Iraq. If the Arabs then realized they are losing (maybe they would want to settle Iraq into ethnic groups) their influence and if the Iranians saw a possible grab for power, the resulting kinetic energy would be tremendous. Of course this would take some kind of reversed 3GW effort in maneuverabilty.

Ha, I have no sympathy for your book problem.... (just kidding).
Thanks to you, the Coming Anarchy crew, TDAXP and a few others, I have more books than I can afford on my "to be read" list.
And now, two more! ("Coming of the Third Reich" and the "Third Reich in Power"). As much as my social life suffers from reading so much nowadays, I love it, I've never learned this much in my life. Thanks for another great recommendation.
