FYI, Peter at The Strategist has blasted the promos for Beowulf -- likening it to "300 with snow". (Which means you and I will probably enjoy it immensely! :-) From a historical perspective, I'm glad to see Hollywood reach deep into the "Olde Englisc" -- many a future A.P. English student will now have a muse for their dissection of the old book.

Shane - I have to say that I'll probably enjoy it too. But please, no Hollywood style samurai sword-fighting moves! Fight like Norse warriors really fought!

Why do we need this when the 13th Warrior was such an excellent (condensed) Beowulf story? I'm sure I'll watch and enjoy it anyway, but they have really done a number on Grendel's mom. Angelina Jolie?! She was more like a mother bear in the poem. Now she's like a succubus Morgan Le Fay luring Beowulf into fathering ... something ... another cannibal monster? And yet he still ends up against the dragon.
Obviously they have sexed up the narrative. Let's hope that enough good old fashioned blood and thunder is left to save it.
