Given the drubbing Sonny gives Peters on the details of EBO, I'm even more inclined to believe John's interpretation that Peters was posting up to try and slow the momentum for war against Iran. When a great writer and thinker like Peters is sloppy, sometimes there are reasons.

Look, using the effects of WWII strategic bombing to discredit the effectiveness capabilities of EBO in 2006 is an anachronistic argument for reasons that relate about equally to the state of German industrialization and air capabilities. EBO's effectiveness depends upon the target's vulnerability derived from dependency on interlocking comlex systems, most of which were rudimentary during WWII, even in. an advanced state like Nazi Germany.
Does Peters have a general point worth considering about the historical overselling of air power since the days of Billy Mitchell ? Yes. But he's overselling the other side of the equation.
I would think after the disaster that has been Iraq, Peters does have an ulterior motive, though he's putting the blame for Iraq wrongly on the Air Force and EBO and missing the target, which should be Pres. Bush, Rumsfeld and the military leaders who signed off on the fiasco.
Interestingly, Peters wrote a column last week promoting "talking with Tehran". http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/63744.htm
