Rid misses the crucial fact that DOD's Transformation is only about 10% accomplished. What we did / are doing in Iraq doesn't BEGIN to tap into what we will have as capabilities over the next 10 years.

Furthermore, he's apparently ignorant of the social network-oriented nature of some of the elements that already are worked and ready to deploy. These include "every soldier a sensor" systems that allow patrols to send in observations and get real-time updates on events / people / etc. from others in the field.

Suggest those interested google the CCRP and read Alberts/Hayes' books (available for free download) before they believe Rid when he says DOD was / is primarily interested in fixing fallible soldiers. The reality is that real transformation is a hugely complex undertaking which everyone involved realizes will take a good time to put in place.

Agreed. Very knowledgable comment. Not sure if we will reach that potential though unless the sense of threat remains high in the public mind.
